SKOPJE, 01.24.2018 – Representatives of Association of Journalists of Macedonia yesterday met with the new Public Prosecutor Mr.Ljubomir Joveski and the purpose of the meeting was to improve the cooperation on issues of common interest between AJM and the Prosecutors’ Office.

The president of AJM Naser Selmani expressed concern that in Macedonia there is a policy of impunity towards violence to journalists. Selmani asked from Joveski and the Prosecutors’ Office to process these cases faster in order the Court to punish the perpetrators.

He complained that in the past period the prosecution has rejected all the demands of AJM for processing cases of hate speech against journalists without serious argumentation. In addition, Selmani asked these demands to be re-viewed again.

AJM and the Prosecutors’ Office agreed to organize joint training events for journalists and prosecutors in order to improve the reporting of journalists and the responses of prosecutors for cases related to freedom of speech.

The Public Prosecutor Joveski promised to pay more attention on cases of violence against journalists and to consider denied demands of hate speech against journalists. According to him, the cooperation between the prosecution and the AJM is of mutual interest.
