AJK condemns the threat against a journalist by a security member of Kosovo’s Assembly

Prishtine, 16.03.2018 – Association of Journalists of Kosovo condemns the threat from a security member of the Kosovo Assembly against journalists Lumturie Blakaj while she was covering the Thursday’s session.

RTK journalist, Lumturie Blakaj informed AJK that during the plenary session at Kosovo’s Assembly that she was verbally threatened by a security member.

“I have been insulted by the most humiliating words and the arrogant behaviour of the security of Kosovo’s Assembly” Blakaj said.

Blakaj stressed that she was verbally threatened by the security member while she was consulting an MP. Some other journalists witnessed the incident.

Blakaj added that the security member started a violent physical action towards her by pushing her outside the hall where the MPs usually stay.

“Throughout these 18 years of career covering the Kosovo Assembly, I have never felt more ignored and insulted by a Kosovo state official,” Blakaj said.

The Association of Journalists of Kosovo strongly condemns the threat performed by the security member against the journalist and demands that appropriate measures be taken toward this member.

This is the second case that for a short time there were intimidation, threats and aggressive behaviour by the security members of the Assembly of Kosovo against journalists who follow the work of this institution.

The AJK will send a worrying letter to the President of the Assembly of Kosovo and the Kosovo Police General Director in order to take measures to stop this misconduct of security members.
