AJM submitted a complaint to MOI for the detention of the two journalists

SKOPJE, 08.11.2017 – Yesterday, the Association of Journalists of Macedonia submitted a complaint to the Sector for Internal Control and Professional Standards, for the unlawful detention of the two journalists Mahmut and Uka, for allegedly filming the court council at the time of the announcement of verdict of the “Divo Naselje” case. The detention lasted for 6 hours, in the police station “Kisela Voda”.

In the submitted complaint, AJM requests explanation from the police about the reasons and the basis for the 6-hour detention of journalists Mahmuti and Uka.

In addition, the AJM requires from the Sector for Internal Control and Professional Standards to conduct an investigation into this case and if an overstepping of the powers of the police officers is recognized, to initiate an appropriate disciplinary measures.

The Association expects from MOI to quickly review the complaint and inform us about the results of the investigation.

The Western Balkan’s Regional Platform for Advocating Media Freedom and Journalists’ Safety already had a reaction for this case, and expects from the Macedonian authorities to immediately investigate this case.
