SKOPJE 06.02.2017 Association of Journalists of Macedonia expresses solidarity with the demands of the journalists of the three newspapers of publisher Media Print Macedonia to immediately pay wages for December and January and payments to correspondents.
AJM supports the decision of the strike committee of journalists of Dnevnik, Utrinski and Vest to go to strike if no later than 15 February wages are paid.
Without social security of journalists there can be no freedom of the press, which is a prerequisite for a functioning democracy.
We urge the owners and management of MPM to seriously tackle with solving the problems and to end the agony in the company. It is unacceptable for newspapers and journalists to turn into hostages of daily political interests.
The only lasting and sustainable solution to the situation in MPM is to exempt newspapers from party control. The future of newspapers should be found in restoring confidence among readers and advertisers.
