„Freedom of Media and Journalists’ Safety“, Regional Platform Conference, November 22-23, 2018, Podgorica

PODGORICA, 20.11.2018. – Western Balkan’s Regional Platform for Advocating Media Freedom and Journalists’ Safety will introduce the results of 3-year work at the conference „Freedom of Media and Journalists’ Safety“. The Conference will be held in Podgorica, Montenegro, on 22 – 23 November this year.

The Conference is organized within the Western Balkan’s Regional Platform for Advocating Media Freedom and Journalists’ Safety Project that implies cooperation of Trade Union of Media of Montenegro, the host of the Conference, Independent Association of Journalists’ of Serbia, Association BH Journalists, Croatian Journalist’ Association, Association of Journalists of Kosovo and Association of Journalists of Macedonia.

The Platform represents about 8000 journalists and is the biggest and most representative media network in the region.

When in December 2015 the Platform was established it had one goal – to determine regional mechanism for monitoring level of media freedom and safety of journalists in the region and to advocate improvement of both – freedom and safety. The Project gathered the most prominent journalist’ associations and unions in Western Balkan and was supported by the European Commission.

Platform activities during last three years will be presented at the Conference that will be participated by hundreds of media experts, journalists and media representatives. It will be opened by Zoran Pažanin, Vice-president of the Government of Montenegro, Aivo Orav, Head of EU Delegation to Montenegro, Henk van den Dool, Netherlands ambassador in Montenegro, Snežana Trpevska, Ph. D., Project’s Head researcher and Marijana Camović, President of Trade Union of Media of Montenegro.

Numerous panel discussions and workshops run by skillful experts from Montenegro and the region will address different topics: journalists’ safety, advertising in media (print and digital), situations in newsrooms, free access to information, political and economic pressures on media and editorial staff, media laws in Western Balkans and others.

Organization of the Conference is supported by European Commission, Government of Montenegro and Netherland Embassy in Montenegro.
