The editor of M portal, Danica Nikolić, received a threatening email, in which an unknown person threatened her and her colleagues Tamara Nikčević, Bojana Dabović, Mirka Dević and Slavica Kruščić Vasović with rape.

Nikolić received a death threat from the same email address in September 2022, and the case has not yet been resolved.

Regarding the case, the case was established in the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica.

In its opinion, the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro stated that “the measures and actions taken by the Police Directorate did not lead to establishing all the facts, identifying and prosecuting those responsible, nor were steps taken to determine whether there was a link between the threats made against the female journalists and their personal characteristics as a motive of hatred—such as their sex or gender—as well as their journalistic activities and contribution to public debate.”
