On 2nd of September, the government agency for the protection of territory demolished two pools of a hotel resort in Durres, claiming they were illegally built on state-owned land.

The hotel resort is owned by Irfan Hysenbelliu, a media owner who has had several issues with government officials during the last few months. The government accused the media of blackmailing and the media now accuses the government of vengeance because of their critical opposition editorial line in the past few months.

As reported in BalkanInsight: A pro-opposition media group in Albania (that owns News24 biggest 24-hour news channel, Panorama, the biggest print newspaper, and other smaller media) accused the Socialist government of Prime Minister Edi Rama of harassing its owner businesses to force it to change its editorial line – an accusation the government has rejected.

The Government spokesperson Mr. Endri Fuga denied Rama ordered the demolition, which followed months of spats between media owned by Hysenbelliu and government officials.
