Female journalist Kadira Šakić of RTV Srebrenica prepared and published a report entitled “The final program of commemorating the 28th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the UN Protected Zone of Srebrenica”. After the publication of this news on the media’s website, director Bojan Josipović verbally suggested to the journalist not to use the word “genocide” and asked her to delete it. The word “genocide” was eventually replaced by the word “suffering”, and the posts of the journalist Šakić were removed from the RTV Srebrenica portal and this media’s profile on social networks. After the case was published in the media, the journalist faced numerous threats and verbal attacks.
Teh BH Journalists Assciation´s Sttering Committee a press release. Lawyer Ahmet Efendić initiated the legal protection of the journalist through the mechanisms of the Helpline for journalists.
After three months, and under pressure and uncertainty, journalist Kadira Šakić left RTV Srebrenica and journalism as as profession.
