PRISTINA, 11.12.2019- Association of Kosovo Journalists has received with concern the approach of Kosovo Parliament Member Veton Berisha towards Radio Kosovo journalist Denis Galushi.
Galushi through an editorial article wrote about Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities. According to MP Berisha, it contents violation, so on 09.12.2019, he denounced it as a penal act at the Basic Court of Pristina.
“Based on its publication, dated on 18.10.2019 entitled: “Article “Roma + Ashkali + Egyptian = ROMA” we have found that he did a penal act by inciting disunity and intolerance and denying Egyptian and Ashkali, we identity that he violated the constitution, the laws and the clause 141 of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council”, he added on Facebook.
The AJK emphasizes that any politician can pursue a legal path towards any journalist, but can not ascertain, as MP Berisha has done, that the journalist did a penal act with his article, yet unconfirmed by the justice authorities. In addition, the MP described the journalistic article as “slander, vilification and an attempt to divide”, which is unacceptable for AJK.
The AJK asks from Berisha MP to stop public lynching against journalist Galushi, and emphasizes that freedom of speech is guaranteed by the Constitution of Kosovo, and journalists as its bearers should not be impeded and dictated by politics.
