Mirjana Radulović and Branimir Slijepčević, editors of Radio Rojc, yesterday were taken to the police station in Pula, Croatia.

The detention followed an incident between the editor of Radio Rojc and members of the Croatian police. The police came at the invitation of Radulović and Slijepčević, and the reason was harassment by other users of the premises of the Rojc Social Center and neighboring institutions. According to the testimony of Radulović and Rojc, in the previous period, persons who damaged the premises constantly broke into the premises of Radio Rojc. A year ago, this radio had its valuable equipment stolen.

After the ensuing discussion between the police and Mirjana Radulović, two police officers decided to take Radulović into custody for allegedly insulting an official and handcuff her. As a result, Radulović told them that she was in pain, and then her Slijepčević intervened, warning them not to do this to her because she was sick, after which the policemen took him into custody as well. The footage that was made available to the public clearly shows that police officers treat the persons they handcuffed quite rudely and carelessly.

Radulović and Slijepčević were released from the police last night.

The SafeJournalists Network is concerned about the rough treatment of the policemen and the detention of two Radio Rojc editors, and demands a clear explanation from the competent authorities about the reasons for the detention of the two Croatian journalists and the necessity of such an act.

The SafeJournalists Network will inform relevant national and international stakeholders.

Every attack on journalists is an attack on the public interest, democracy, and the rights of all citizens.
