The Center for Democracy Foundation (FCD) said Fonet news agency journalist Tamara Skrozza has been subjected to attacks and an unwarranted media campaign, and called for the protection of her rights.
The FCD said that attacks, harassment and intimidation of journalists are unacceptable in a democratic country aspiring to become a member of the European Union (EU).
“Tamara Skrozza is a journalist of unquestionable professional and personal integrity, ethics, and principles. It is the relevant institutions’ duty and obligation to protect the rights and ensure the safety of journalists and provide full freedom for media operations in Serbia,” the Foundation said.
It added that freedom of thought and expression is a human right guaranteed by international conventions and by Serbia’s Constitution.
“Media freedom is one of the pillars of a democratic society, and the right to freedom of expression plays a crucial role in exercising other human rights,” said the FCD.
