Journalist Danica Ilić was robbed of her mobile phone by the Minister of Finance in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Siniša Mali.
According to her, the journalist found herself in a restaurant when the guests, after he got up to pay the bill, started shouting, “Students, students”. The shouts were joined first by the guests, and then by the restaurant workers. The minister showed them the middle finger. The journalist approached him, introduced herself (as a journalist) and asked for a statement.
“He forcefully snatched the phone from my hands.” I started for them. We left the restaurant. He asked me why I was filming him and I wanted to talk to him, where I explained that they had just chanted “long live the students” at him, and he showed his middle finger, but I also reminded him that he was a public official, in a public place, and that I, as a journalist, could to ask him what he thinks about it. The whole time we were walking down the street, the minister carried my phone, and after discussing what is a public function and what is a journalist’s job, in the end, he put my phone down on the planter,” said journalist Danica Ilić.
