Journalist Vedran Morin was targeted in February 2025 for his investigative articles about illegal dog shelters;
He was the target of defamatory attacks and calls for a public showdown on social media for his articles. Then, a 37-year-old man was attacked near the village of Desni Degoj, suspected of being mistaken for Morin by his attackers (father and son). Locals confirmed to the journalist that the attackers had actually targeted him and threatened him with physical assault if he continued writing.
The journalist believes that the attack followed after he announced on Facebook that he was going to Desni Degoj, where locals are dissatisfied with the work of the local dog shelter and attacks by dogs on people and livestock.
An employee of the Competition Agency filed a criminal complaint against Morin for “intrusive behavior” after Morin officially asked her how she could support an illegal dog shelter, although according to the journalist, the contact was exclusively through journalistic inquiries.
