Photojournalist Gavrilo Andric, who was photographing a civic protest and blockade of the court and prosecutor’s office in Novi Sad, was detained by police officers. He told the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) that he had been taking photos at several locations in front of the court when he found himself between a police cordon and a fence, at which point he was physically pressured by police officers.
After the police began to withdraw, he followed their movements and continued photographing the scene, wearing a helmet clearly marked with the word “press.” According to his account, at one point police officers asked him for his press credentials, which he did not have. Andric told them he had his ID card and tried to show it, but they decided to detain him for identity verification.
He also added that the officers mentioned both identity verification and alleged insulting of the police as reasons for the detention.
