Obuljen Koržinek: Soon the working group for drafting the law on media

The Minister of Culture and Media, Nina Obuljen Koržinek, announced on Wednesday that the formation of a working group for the drafting of a new law on media will be started very soon, and that it is being considered to include the law on electronic media in one law, reports Hina.

“We will start forming a working group very quickly, there is a lot of material, I believe we will reach a consensus on that law,” the minister said on Croatian Radio.

She said that the existing Media Act is quite outdated, it dates back to 2003 and does not recognize some contemporary phenomena in the media.

She reminded that at the end of the last mandate, “certain” material was prepared for the discussion, but that it stopped because of the parliamentary elections. This law must be passed, the minister said, and announced that it will be worked on following the media strategy, that is, the Culture and Media Development Program, and that the formation of a working group for its drafting will be started very soon.

She also revealed that it is being considered that the law on media and the law on electronic media should be included in one law, and that the authority of the regulator should be extended to print media as well, which is not the case now.
