The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica has filed an indictment against G.M. (43) on suspicion that, on March 9, he endangered the safety of Radio and Television of Montenegro journalist Dušanka Pejović.
Libertas Press reported that that the indictment has been submitted to the Basic Court in Podgorica.
G.M. was arrested after Pejović called the police, reporting that an unidentified man at the time had threatened and insulted her in front of the building where she lives. She felt endangered and feared for her safety.
The police promptly arrived at the scene and found G.M., who was subsequently taken into custody. Following questioning at the police station, he was arrested under the prosecution’s order on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of endangering security.
“The suspect addressed the victim in front of her residence with offensive words, threatened to ‘break’ her, told her he knew who she was and where she lived, got in her face, and continued making threats and insults until the police arrived,” the Podgorica Prosecutor’s Office previously stated.
The SafeJournalists network and the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro strongly condemned the attack on Pejović.
The network expressed particular concern over the increasing threats against female journalists in Montenegro. Out of 24 recorded cases of attacks and threats against journalists and media organizations, female journalists were victims in 11 cases.
