Public finance donate to media

PRISHTINA – 30.05.2019, Association of Kosovo Journalists has published today the report “Public Money donate to Media”, a report in the framework of the joint project between AGK and BIRN.

The author of the report, Sihana Klisurica, said that from the request submitted to 61 institutions, among them 21 ministries, 38 municipalities, the Office of the President and the Assembly of Kosovo, only 35 have been responded. According to him, there is a lack of transparency by the institutions.

“Transparency and not delivering the information from institutions is a clear indicator of the impact they have on the given media. Based on the responses sent by 35 local and central level institutions, the total expenditure in the media for 2018 is 598,917.71 euros, said Klisurica.

Elvira Berisha, a member of AGK’s board, during the presentation of the report, said that the main objective of this project is if public finance has been spent properly and how it affected editorial independence of the media.

“AJK has noticed that some public institutions, especially ministries have advertised on different selective portals on which we are worried about. Banners that are noticed on the portal do not show any special activities of ministries. If you click it, you will go to the main site of ministries and do not show any particular job that the institutions want to advertise.
People who followed the event had the opportunity to ask questions about the findings report.

The Project “Public finance donate to media” has analyzed the expenditures that central and local level institutions have made in 2018 in local media. It lasted four-month (January – April 2019).
