AJK Condemns Arbitrary Detention of Cameraman Jetmir Muji by President Osmani’s Close Protection

The Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK) has been informed of a serious obstruction of the work of Paparacicameraman Jetmir Muji while filming the presidential family, Osmani–Sadriu.

President Osmani’s close protection officers physically and arbitrarily stopped Muji while he was filming at a private school attended by the President’s two daughters. He was unlawfully held for several minutes, his camera was confiscated, and he was asked to delete the footage.

AJK considers this detention scandalous and unacceptable, and calls on President Osmani and the Kosovo Police to identify those involved and take appropriate measures.

While respecting ethical standards concerning minors, the media have the right to report on where the children of state leaders are educated and under what conditions. Any obstruction of this right is an attack on media freedom and the public’s right to information.

AJK calls on President Osmani to distance herself from this behavior by her close protection officers and to ensure transparency regarding information about the presidential family when requested by the media.
