PRISTINA, 15.06.2021- The Association of Journalists of Kosovo – AJK, in cooperation with the Kosovo Police – KP, today, held a meeting with the editors-in-chief and media editors in the country, in order to start an campaing about accident prevention and publication of various criminal offenses.
Present at this meeting were: the General Director of Kosovo Police, Mr. Samedin Mehmeti, Chairwoman of the Board of AJK, Gentiana Begolli Pustina, Director of Operations in KP, Gazmend Hoxha, Spokesperson of KP, Baki Kelani and Director of Road Traffic Division in KP, Lieutenant Colonel Jeton Rexhepi.
The General Director of the Kosovo Police, Samedin Mehmeti, stressed the great importance of the media in raising the awareness of citizens to prevent accidents, minor offenses and various criminal offenses.
“Our focus is to cooperate with the media in raising the awareness of citizens for respecting traffic rules. What you can achieve with just one chronicle or article, we can not achieve even with the imposition of 20 thousand fines. “Therefore, your assistance in this regard is undeniable.”
While, the Chairwoman of the Board of AJK, Gentiana Begolli Pustina, said that the commitment of journalists to report for the benefit of citizens has already been proven during reporting on various issues such as political, social, economic and social.
“Journalists, cameramen, photojournalists and other media workers have already proved that when it is in the public interest, they do not spare themselves or their family. So, they have proved such a thing during the time of the pandemic and indisputably they will prove it in the case of this joint initiative with the KP, where journalists will try through their work to prevent any traffic danger, taking into account that in recent days we have had accidents with fatal consequences and will also show the role of citizens to become active citizens. ”
During the meeting with media representatives, editors-in-chief, the coordination of activities in public awareness, realization and publication of traffic safety awareness spots, domestic violence, prevention of narcotics, sexual harassment and others were also discussed.
