On 23 July 2026, Vjolanda Peca, a journalist with Citizens.al, was detained by police while reporting on a protest outside the Albanian Parliament in Tirana.

According to available information, the protest took place during Parliament’s final plenary session before the summer recess and was organized as part of the ongoing civic movement known as the “Flamingo Revolution”. The movement initially emerged in opposition to a planned luxury development in the Vjosa–Narta coastal area and later expanded to include broader demands concerning corruption, transparency, and government accountability.

As tensions escalated, some protesters reportedly threw eggs and bottles and shook the security barriers surrounding Parliament. Police responded by using water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

While covering the events in her professional capacity, Peca was detained and taken to Police Station No. 1, where she was held for more than two hours before being released without charges.
