The editor of LuPortal from Lukavac, Jasmin Garagić, published an audio recording in which a male person utters gender-based insults against female employees of the Public Institution Lukavac Cultural Center. It was later determined that the voice on the audio recording belongs to the director of that institution, Neven Tunjić, and that he is behind the misogynistic statements and insults the Center’s employees. This fact was published on LuPortal.
Dissatisfied with the way LuPortal wrote, Neven Tunjić requested through his lawyer to publish a “denial”, which the editor did, respecting the code of journalistic ethics and the obligation of the media to publish a denial.. Instead of accepting the publication of a denial as a professional way of responding to the media, director Tunjić filed a lawsuit with the Municipal Court in Sarajevo. This lawsuit has elements of a SLAPP lawsuit, since the plaintiff (Neven Tunjić) holds a public office and is trying to intimidate the editor of the portal and dissuade him from further writing about the work of the Public Institution Lukavac Cultural Center and the behavior of its director.
BH Journalists Association and Free Media Help Line provided legal support to the editor of LuPortal.
