Journalist and deputy editor-in-chief of the local news portal Labinština.info, Kristian Stepčić Raisman, published an article analysing publicly available City of Labin decisions and questioning the possible expansion of paid parking zones. Following the publication, the Mayor of Labin, Donald Blašković, publicly attacked the journalist on his Facebook profile, accusing him of lying, unprofessionalism and malicious intent, while also insulting him personally. The Mayor further stated that he would reconsider future cooperation between the City of Labin and the media outlet unless a public apology was issued, creating the impression that access to information could be conditioned by the outlet’s reporting.

The Mayor’s post triggered numerous hostile comments on social media targeting the journalist, including comments encouraging violence against journalists, such as calls to “urinate on journalists,” alongside other messages portraying journalists as enemies. Shortly afterwards, the article was removed from the portal by the editor-in-chief.
