When reporting from the protest that was held on January 21, 2022 in Podgorica, journalist of TVCG, Ana Popovic, received threatening messages on her Instagram profile. The RTCG portal states that the journalist submitted a report to the police on January 25, but also that on January 27 she received a blackmail from the same profile asking her to give 5,000.00 euros or her journalistic freedom. The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica has formed a case that has been qualified as a criminal offense for which it is prosecuted ex officio. The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office stated that they are in the process of clarifying this case.
V. R. was remanded in custody for 3 months.
The trial began in April before the Basic Court in Nikšić, and V.R. was sentenced in the first instance to three months in prison in the same month.
