We, the undersigned, have decided not to assess the selection process for the Director General of the Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK).
The main reasons for this decision are based on our monitoring of RTK, which shows that the public broadcaster is currently facing political pressure in different forms. This includes interference in news content, pressure on journalists, and financial pressure through delays in salary payments.
Under these circumstances, we believe that the RTK Board does not have the independence to make a professional and impartial decision in selecting the next Director General of the public broadcaster.
We will continue to monitor RTK Board meetings, including those related to the selection of the Director General. However, we will not provide an assessment of this selection process.
