PODGORICA, 06.11.2025 – In its latest Country Report on Montenegro, the European Commission noted that in January 2025, Andrej Vučić, brother of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, initiated a lawsuit against the Montenegrin daily Vijesti, stating that the case has raised concerns.
“A court case initiated in January 2025 by the brother of the President of Serbia against a local media outlet before the Basic Court in Podgorica has raised concern,” the European Commission said in the section of the report addressing freedom of expression.
According to Vijesti, Andrej Vučić filed the lawsuit over an article that included, among other things, Sky application (encrypted messaging app) transcripts, in which fugitive Montenegrin police officer Ljubo Milović and Nikšić native Miloš Božović allegedly commented that Zvonko Veselinović and Andrej Vučić “control everything” and that they had recently celebrated “earning their first billion euros.”
Vučić gave testimony before the Basic Court in Podgorica in June, claiming that the purpose of the Vijesti article was solely the “dehumanization and criminalization” of his brother, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
The hearing was attended by members of the media as well as Member of Parliament and Democratic People’s Party (DNP) President Milan Knežević.
