On 10 February 2026, during the opposition protest in Tirana, journalists and media workers were again exposed to violence while carrying out their professional duties. Violent clashes erupted as protesters threw Molotov cocktails and flares toward police and media, prompting law enforcement to respond with tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd.
Reported incidents illustrate the serious risks journalists face when covering public assemblies. A journalist was injured and required assistance after being affected by tear gas deployed during the protest.
In addition, News24 camera operator Aldo Kashri was caught in flames caused by Molotov cocktails thrown near the Parliament while he was filming on duty, requiring immediate help from those nearby to extinguish the fire.
SafeJournalists Network expresses solidarity with all journalists, camera operators, and photojournalists affected in the performance of their duties and calls on all actors to ensure the safety and protection of media workers during public protests.
