The Bujanovačke portal was the target of hate speech, and was called an “Ustasha” and “Picula” portal that was “paid to spit on its country”.
After the text published on this portal: “Our special units at the competition in Dubai: It is important to participate”, Saša Arsić, councilor of the ruling coalition in Bujanovac, shared the text on his Facebook profile and presented a series of mentioned accusations. In another post, Arsić, along with re-targeting the Bujanovačke portal, also posted a photo with acting director of the government’s Coordinating Body for the South of Serbia and head of the Serbian Progressive Party in Bujanovac. He wrote, among other things: “As I announced, the Ustasha portals will start justifying the money they received, they will publish all kinds of nonsense for good money, and the fact that they are selling Serbia and Serbia for Ustasha money is their indicator of who and what they are.”
Such targeting of the media by public officials represents a serious violation of the right to freedom of expression and threatens the safety of journalists, especially when it comes to local media in smaller areas where journalists and their families are less protected.
