Web portal “Volim Podgoricu” (“I love Podgorica”) reported on 9 April that First Bank of Montenegro had filed a lawsuit with the Basic Court in Podgorica against its editor, Vesna Radojević, seeking compensation for non-material damage. The lawsuit followed her appearance on a TV programme in which she mentioned the widely known Montenegrin affair “one million walked eleven times,” which raises questions about the legality and stability of the bank’s operations.

First Bank is seeking €7,000 in damages. In the lawsuit, signed by Chair of the Board Daniela Golubović and Board member Danijela Perović, the bank claims that Radojević violated its right to reputation, as well as its honour and dignity.

Radojević stated that the affair had been reported on for years by virtually all Montenegrin media outlets, and that the lawsuit represents serious pressure on freedom of expression and bears all the key characteristics of a SLAPP lawsuit.
