On January 14th, 2026, after Prime Minister Edi Rama publicly blamed citizens’ behavior for plastic pollution, investigative journalist Klodiana Lala posed specific and documented questions about the operation of the incinerator and institutional accountability for waste management. In his subsequent response, the Prime Minister did not provide facts or explanations about institutions.

Instead, Prime Minister Rama used dismissive and delegitimizing language, accusing the journalist of “ignorance,” “lack of ethics,” and “disinformation,” without addressing any of the substantive claims raised. By framing critical journalistic scrutiny as a personal or moral flaw rather than a legitimate part of public debate, the Prime Minister shifted attention away from accountability.
