PODGORICA, 30.11.2025 – The Bijelo Polje police filed a criminal complaint against M. K. from that town on suspicion that he endangered the safety of Vijesti journalist Jelena Jovanović.
According to the police, their officers acted upon Jovanović’s report from October 10 of this year, stating that she had received messages via Facebook, containing offensive and disturbing content. Police undertook priority activities to identify the responsible person and protect the journalist, after which M. K. from Bijelo Polje was identified.
“Police officers acted on the order of the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Bijelo Polje, and filed a criminal complaint against M. K. on suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of endangering the safety of the aforementioned journalist,” the Police Administration said in its statement.
Police added that M. K. is suspected of sending multiple messages and photographs containing offensive and disturbing content to journalist Jovanović via Facebook on September 12, 2025, which caused her to feel fear and distress.
“The Police will continue to respond promptly and decisively to all forms of threats and pressures directed at journalists, undertaking measures to protect them, identify perpetrators, and prosecute any act that endangers their safety. In cooperation with the State Prosecutor’s Office, measures are being taken to ensure a safe environment for the unhindered work of journalists, including professional and investigative activities, thereby strengthening the protection of media workers, a free media environment, and the rule of law,” the statement concluded.
