Journalist and editor of the local media outlet Svetonedeljski list, Robert Radošević, was prevented from reporting from the ceremonial session of the City Council of the City of Sveta Nedelja, held on the occasion of the City Day celebration. According to the editorial office, Svetonedeljski list did not receive an official invitation to the event, nor to other city events in the preceding period.
Approximately ten days before the session, the editorial office verbally requested accreditation for the event from the city spokesperson, Lucija Savanović, while a formal request was also sent via email three days before the session. No response to the request was received.
Upon arrival at the event, a security guard prevented the journalist from entering the hall, explaining that such a decision had been made by the protocol office. The journalist subsequently contacted the city spokesperson seeking clarification, but according to his account, no clear explanation for the ban was provided.
Svetonedeljski list is a local media outlet that has operated since 1993. The editorial office believes that this conduct prevented the journalist from carrying out his professional duties and that banning access to a public event constitutes a restriction on the right to report on matters of public interest.
