PODGORICA, 12.12. 2025 – The trial of Nikola Raičević and Milić Ralević, who are charged with the criminal offence of coercion against Vijesti photojournalist Boris Pejović, was postponed for the second time today at the Basic Court in Berane, this time to allow defence lawyers time to review the case file.
At the hearing, counsel for the defendant Ralević stated that he had only been retained the previous day and required additional time to prepare for trial, requesting that the hearing be adjourned. The defence lawyer for the defendant Raičević agreed with the request.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin on 5 December but was postponed after Ralević failed to appear due to an urgent family matter.
Judge Ivan Došljak has scheduled the start of the trial for 27 January next year.
The incident in which Pejović was attacked occurred in August in the village of Gornje Zaostro, near Berane, during the removal of a monument to Chetnik commander and convicted war criminal Pavle Đurišić. On that occasion, several dozen people attending the event attacked Pejović and Pobjeda photojournalist Stevo Vasiljević.
In addition to the proceedings against Raičević and Ralević, a separate case for the same criminal offence is being conducted before the Basic Court in Berane against Danko Femić, while proceedings are also underway before the Misdemeanour Court against five additional individuals. Raičević, Ralević, and Femić are charged with the aggravated form of the criminal offence of coercion, which has stricter penalties when media workers are targeted and which was introduced into the Criminal Code in 2022 at the initiative of the Media Union of Montenegro (TUMM) and Action for Human Rights.
