After reporting from the local elections held in Kula, journalist Kristina Demeter Filipčev from the local media Bečejski mozaik, was exposed to a series of sexist insults based on gender and nationality, as well as threats, which represent a serious form of online violence, gender-based harassment and intimidation, the main goal of which is to humiliate the journalist, silence her and remove her from her professional work, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.
Just some of the comments are: “Block the house of this journalist”, “You are an Ustashka terrorist…” “The people of Banac came to fuck Hungarians, they don’t know how to say no”, “Since you write like that, post a picture so you can see that I can fuck freaks…”, “The sea is the mother of Ustasha”, “She is a piece of shit…” The content of the comments represents impermissible hate speech, misogynist and nationalist targeting, as well as serious threats which are intended to cause fear and threaten security.
The threats were reported to the public prosecutor’s office.
