Following a statement by the BH Journalists Association condemning his public targeting and defamatory remarks against investigative journalist Anisa Mahmutović and Adis Mujdanović, editor-in-chief of the independent investigative outlet Plural.ba, lawyer Mirnes Ajanović announced that he had filed criminal complaints and defamation lawsuits against responsible individuals within BH Journalists.

On 20 May 2026, several international and European organisations, including partner organisations of the Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) consortium, received an email from Ajanović informing them that lawsuits had been filed against BH Journalists and unnamed “media actors.” In the email, Ajanović requested a response from these organisations while condemning what he described as the misuse of mechanisms intended to protect journalists.

The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) expressed its full support for its Bosnian affiliate, BH Journalists, whose credibility and legitimacy have been publicly questioned in relation to its core mission of supporting journalists. The EFJ also expressed concern for the safety of the Association’s staff, as well as journalists Anisa Mahmutović and Adis Mujdanović, who, following Ajanović’s social media posts, were subjected to additional discrediting and intimidating comments from online users.
