SKOPJE 20.07.2017 – The Association of Journalists of Macedonia condemns the threats by the supporters of the Democratic Union for Integration towards the team of Shenja Television, that was yesterday prevented from reporting on communal problems in the municipality of Chair.
We urge the competent institutions to identify the perpetrators and to bring them to justice. Violence against the journalist and media workers is unacceptable and represents attack on the democracy.
The state has obligation to provide an effective system of prevention and punishment of violence against journalists. That is a basic precondition to improve the state of the freedom of speech.
AJM, also, salutes the declaration of the Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, who condemned the threats towards TV Shenja and called to investigate the case and punish the abusers.
