Croatian Government condemns attack on journalists

The Government of the Republic of Croatia has condemned the attack on the N1 Croatia news crew, who were verbally and physically assaulted by a man on Wednesday afternoon at Ban Jelačić Square in Zagreb, stressing that “media professionals and journalists must be free in their work and their safety must be guaranteed”.

“We condemn the attack on the N1 Croatia news crew. The police reacted promptly and detained the suspect for the violent act. Media professionals and journalists must be free to do their work, and their safety must be ensured,” the Croatian Government announced on the social platform X.

Earlier in the evening, Zagreb police reported that they had detained a man who, at around 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, verbally and physically attacked a journalist and cameraman from N1 television while they were carrying out their work at Ban Jelačić Square.

“Through urgent action, the man suspected of being connected to the attack is under police supervision. A criminal investigation is ongoing,” the Zagreb Police Administration said.
