Montenegrin police identified B.U. (62), an Australian citizen, who has been sending threatening emails to the editor-in-chief of M Portal, Danica Nikolić for 3 years.
According to the police, B.U. will face criminal charges.
“An Australian citizen B.U. (62) is suspected of continuously sending, over a longer period, messages of threatening, disturbing, misogynistic, and sexist content to Danica Nikolić. The competent Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica has been informed about the collected data and evidence, and it issued an order to file a criminal complaint against the suspect B.U., on suspicion that, to the detriment of Ms. Nikolić, he committed four criminal offenses of endangering safety,” the statement said.
They added that B.U. is not currently on the territory of Montenegro.
In further proceedings, they emphasized, this case will involve international legal communication between the competent authorities of Montenegro and Australia.
“The Police Directorate continuously undertakes preventive and repressive measures and actions to protect the rights and integrity of journalists and all media workers, given that the activities of the police and other competent authorities in ensuring a favorable environment for free media work are a fundamental condition for free journalistic and investigative activity. This is one of the basic principles of our Police and an achievement of every democratic state, including Montenegro,” the police said.
