Editor-in-chief of M Portal, Danica Nikolić, gave a statement today at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office (ODT) following renewed death threats sent to her official email address yesterday.
According to Analitika, during her hearing at the Prosecutor’s Office, Nikolić detailed all previous developments, starting from September 10, 2022, when she received the first death threat from the same email address.
“Every email I received from this individual was immediately forwarded to the Department for Combating High-Tech Crime. They were able to identify the country, city, and person behind the threats. International cooperation was initiated, and even Interpol was involved. Yet, after nearly three years, this person has not been stopped — on the contrary, the threats have only become more brutal.
With all forwarded emails and information, submitted statements, signed records, and other documents, I have fulfilled my obligations toward the Police Directorate and the prosecution. I have left sufficient institutional records to show that reports were filed and institutions alerted. From now on, I will no longer continue this process because it is clearly ineffective.
Everything that happens from this point forward is the sole responsibility of Montenegrin state institutions. My responsibility will be to inform the Montenegrin public of any future threats through the media outlet I edit,” Nikolić said after giving her statement at the ODT in Podgorica.
She reiterated to the prosecutor that each threat from this email address was received shortly after Montenegrin state officials publicly targeted M Portal and other media. The latest threats arrived after Boris Bogdanović, head of the Democratic Montenegro parliamentary group, claimed that the two largest criminal clans in the Balkans — Kavač and Škaljari — were paying M Portal, Portal Analitika, and Television E €8,000 per article.
Nikolić also stated that one of the threatening emails suggested that the sender had been in contact with Boris Bogdanović.
She requested that the Prosecutor’s Office investigate Bogdanović’s claims as well.
