Last week, as part of the activities of the regional SafeJournalists Network, the Executive Director of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK), Getoarbë Mulliqi—who also serves as the national researcher for the platform—visited Brussels on an advocacy mission together with representatives of partner organizations working on the protection of journalists’ rights from the Western Balkans and Croatia. The visit was organized in coordination with the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ).
During the visit, a series of important meetings were held with Members of the European Parliament, representatives of the European Commission, and officials responsible for freedom of expression, media policy, and the EU enlargement process concerning the Western Balkans. As part of the agenda, the SafeJournalists Network also met with the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, presenting key findings on the state of media freedom and the safety of journalists across the region.
The SafeJournalists Network is a regional platform that monitors and documents attacks, threats, and other forms of pressure against journalists. It provides early warning mechanisms, increases the visibility of individual cases, and ensures timely and accurate information for institutions and the wider public. The importance of this platform is particularly significant given that a large share of threats against journalists today occur online, are often coordinated, and frequently transcend national borders—making a joint regional approach essential.
