AJK and Kosovo Police deepen cooperation on journalist’s safety

PRISTINA, 28.03.2017 – Representatives of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo met on Tuesday the general director of Kosovo police, Shpend Maxhuni in which it was discussed for better cooperation for journalist’s safety in Kosovo.

Chairman of AJK’s board, Shkelqim Hysenaj presented to director of police the association’s report of 2016 related to media freedom and journalist’s safety, and in particular it was discussed about the recommendations issued for police.

Hysenaj asked from director Maxhuni that Kosovo police to treat with priority the cases of threats and attacks against journalists and for the same cases to cooperate with justice bodies. Also, one of the recommendations was to organise trainings with police officers that aims to increase the cooperation between police and media.

AJK and Kosovo Police agreed to start soon the organisation of different trainings in which the AJK will be involved.

General Director, Shpend Maxhuni pledged for a mutual cooperation that will have a positive impact in the work of police and media in Kosovo.

The police transparency in relation to media as well as treatment by Kosovo police of threats that come through social networks were tackled in the meeting. Regarding this matter, the director Maxhuni said that the institution that he leads is treating all kinds of threats and attacks against journalists.

Referring to official data, Maxhuni stressed that police was very effective to treat the cases when journalists were victims of attacks, threats and intimidations related to their work.
