PRISTINA, 24.03.2016 – The Association of Journalist of Kosovo welcomes the decision of the State prosecutor that is put in practice related to treatments with priority when journalists are victims of violence. AJK was informed last Friday, March 17th, for the threat by an individual against journalist Vehbi Kajtazi which ended with damages in his vehicle. AJK met Kajtazi and received information from him about the incident. Kajtazi told AJK that two prosecutors visited him and the suspect was immediately put in detention for 48 hours. AJK is happy to hear that the March 9th 2017 agreement between the association and the State Prosecution showed first results.

AJK remains dedicated for creation of a safer environment to exercise the profession of journalist in Kosovo. In this attempt, a greater role is also played by efficiency of justice institutions. AJK will cooperate closely with all institutions whenever is necessary.

In meantime, AJK calls on all journalists and other media professionals to contact our offices to provide their cases which are unfinished and remain with prosecution or in courts. AJK is collecting all cases involving the journalists as victims of violence which will be handed over to prosecution of courts for further treatment.

Best regards,

AJK board
