Journalist associations from the countries of the Western Balkans, with the support of the European Commission, established a joint platform Safejournalists.net to monitor changes in the legislation and practice of their countries and to engage in various propaganda activities aimed at improving the political, legislative and institutional environment in which journalists and media work. Since 2020, members of the platform have been monitoring the situation in seven countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Serbia). Every year, an assessment of the situation is carried out based on standardized methods of data collection and analysis, while research on propagation activities focuses on changes, both in the traditional and online media environment in the Western Balkans.
